Nevada Magazine’s Web site has earned first place in the 2008 National Headliner Awards, one of the oldest and largest annual contests recognizing journalistic merit in the communications industry. The Press Club of Atlantic City gave NevadaMagazine.com top billing in the “Magazine Affiliated Online Journalism” division, calling the site “an in-depth portal giving a pictorial sense of place and possibilities with an online magazine flair.”

The award is the first for Nevada Magazine’s Web site, which was redesigned in August 2007 by Noble Studios, a Carson City-based Web development company. The goal of the updated site is to portray a modern lifestyle publication branding, while staying true to the travel and culture stories that have been the benchmark of Nevada Magazine. “This was a tremendous accomplishment for all those involved in the design and development process, especially after finding out that CNNMoney.com and Newsweek.com were second and third,” said Jarrod Lopiccolo, business director for Noble Studios.

A division of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Nevada Magazine has been telling the Silver State’s story since 1936—nearly as long as the prestigious National Headliner Awards have been in existence. The Press Club of Atlantic City founded the contest in 1934 and gave out its first award in 1935, a year before Nevada Magazine, then known as Nevada Highways and Parks, debuted.

The accomplishment is especially rewarding for a magazine that introduced a redesign in print and online in 2007. “It’s great to see that the hard work of our staff, and the company which we worked with to produce an award-winning product, has been recognized by a credible journalism foundation such as the Press Club of Atlantic City,” said Matthew B. Brown, editor of Nevada Magazine. “We hope this award will generate more interest in our Web site and our magazine in general. We are determined to keep up with cutting-edge journalism trends and still maintain a respect for the history of our 72-year-old publication.”

Nevada Magazine, the official state publication, highlights the Silver State’s attractions, destinations, dining, culture, history, events, shows, and more. The Web site features the same high-quality images print readers are accustomed to, Web Extras (stories not available in print), other online bonus material, and the most complete guide to Nevada events and shows.
