henderson trails photo contest

By KIM BECKER | July/August 2009

The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a trails photo contest through August 31. The contest illustrates and promotes the best aspects of the city’s trail system through the use of photographs and must feature a visible City of Henderson trail.

The contest is open to participants of all ages, but those younger than 17 must have a parent or guardian’s signature on the entry form. Printable entry forms and a complete list of rules and entry requirements are available at cityofhenderson.com. There is no cost to participate.

The contest features six separate category themes: views from the trail with people (color), views from the trail without people (color), positive trail use (color), plant life along the trail (color), wildlife along the trail (color), and general trail photos (black and white).

“Last year’s contest featured some outstanding entries that truly captured the beauty of Henderson’s trails,” says Jennifer Magby, outdoor recreation coordinator for the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “What makes the contest so interesting is that each entrant brings a unique perspective to the process. Some see a trail as a place to ride a bike, another may see it as a way to walk for physical fitness, while another may see it as a way to connect with nature.”

Entries will be judged on creativity, composition, and content, as well as the inclusion of an identifiable Henderson trail. The top three finalists from each category will have their photographs on display during the National Trails Day event, which takes place on October 3 at the Promenade at the Pavilion, 200 South Green Valley Parkway.

Winners in each category receive ribbons and enlargements of their work, and one entry will be awarded Best of Show. A People’s Choice Award will also be selected on National Trails Day out of the top three finalists in each category.
