Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe has opened its new Winters Creek Lodge for the 2009/10 season. BSA Architects of San Francisco have designed a modern facility with a contemporary style that is the first of its kind in the Lake Tahoe area.
Located on the southeastern-most edge of the Slide Bowl, the new building is based on a style popular in Europe, which brings valley architecture into the mountains. The glass façade of the lodge creates a warm and special feel for what is coined as the “locals” side of the Mt. Rose resort.
Winters Creek Lodge is almost 8,000 square feet and constructed mainly of glass and steel. Replacing the former lodge, the positioning of the new structure lends itself to a more conducive guest area, providing improved traffic flow from the slopes to the lodge as well as to the Blazing Zephyr chairlift.
A modern kitchen inside the lodge brings signature food service by newly appointed Food & Beverage Manager Thomas Monarrez, including Panini sandwiches, homemade pasta dishes, custom burgers, multi-grain pizzas, and tasty wraps. The cozy Sky Bar provides a relaxing feel with an incredible panoramic view of Washoe Valley and Washoe Lake 4,000 feet below.
The lodge accommodates around 150 patrons—but that’s just on the inside. Complementing the beautiful indoor experience is a 7,600-square-foot outdoor deck that holds another 400 skiers and boarders. It’s the perfect place to take a ski break or hold an event, party, or wedding any time during the year.
Panattoni Construction has been selected as the Winters Creek Lodge contractor. Incorporated in the design are smart technologies making use of passive solar mechanisms to maximize the efficiency of the building. The lodge opened on December 21, 2009.
Mt. Rose is located 25 minutes from Reno and 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe. The resort boasts more than 1,200 acres of terrain and convenient parking.
